Cardiovascular diseases remain the number one cause of death in Belgium. Cardiovascular risk is influenced amongst others by age, sex, family history, smoking, blood pressure and cholesterol. AOST focuses on the influence of cholesterol on cardiovascular risk. The application allows a physician - to calculate the cardiovascular risk of his patient (SCORE) - to motivate his patient to treat to LDL target by demonstrating the effect of lowering cholesterol on cardiovascular risk - to optimize the treatment of a patient by predicting the theoretical LDL-decrease of different therapeutic approaches.
